Importance of Dussehra
Lord Shri Ram killed Ravana, the king of Lanka, who kidnapped his wife Sita, on Ashwin Shukla Dashami. According to mythology, Ravana was killed on Dashami after a fierce battle and Sri Rama conquered Lanka, hence this day is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. At the same time, Maa Durga fought a fierce battle with Mahishasura for 10 days and killed her on Ashwin Shukla Dashami. Because of this also, that day was celebrated as Vijayadashami. Both these events symbolize the victory of good over evil and religion over unrighteousness.
