Dhanteras 2022 Date: Dhanteras is a very big and a most important festival of the year which is celebrated all over India by Hindus. People celebrate this festival with great grandeur and enthusiasm. Everybody waits for this festive season eagerly that starts from Dhanteras and ends on Bhaiya Dooj. Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik Month. As per Drik Panchang, this year, the sacred festival of Dhanteras is going to be celebrated on both days October 22 and 23, 2022.

Special Note:- According to the Astrologer Nandini Sharma, people can offer Deepam to the Lord Yama which is known as 'Yamadeepam' on October 22, 2022 and Laxmi Pujan can be performed on both the days - October 22 and 23 also. On October 23, Trayodashi will be Udaya Tithi so this year, people can purchase things on 23 October, 2022 also.

Dhanteras 2022: Significance

The word ‘Dhan’ means ‘wealth’ and ‘Teras’ implies 13th and that is why it is known as Dhanteras. The festival of Diwali begins from the Dhanteras, the auspicious festival when people worship the gods of wealth and prosperity. According to the Hindi scriptures, it is believed that on this propitious day, Devi Laxmi and Lord Kuber appeared with other treasures during churning the ocean or at the time of Samudra Manthan, that is the reason why people worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Kuber on this holy day.

People do Purchasing and buying new things considered to be an auspicious activity on this day. On this very day of Dhanteras, people bring lots of gold, silver jewellery, utensils and other useful things which is a significance of good luck and fortune.

In some parts of India, Dhanteras is also celebrated as ‘ Dhanwantari Jayanti’ which is the birth anniversary of ‘Dhanwantari’, who is the God of Ayurveda. Lord Dhanvantari should be worshipped with Shodashopachara.

Shodashopachara is a ritual that consists of 16 different procedures of worship. This includes, Aasan, Padya, Arghya, Aachman (scented drinking water), bathe, clothing, jewelry, scents (saffron and sandalwood), flowers, dhoop, deep, Naivedya, Aachman (pure water), betel leaf containing the offerings, Aarti, and parikrama.

On this day the Lakshmi puja should be performed during the Pradosh Kaal during ‘Sthir Lagan’ and it is believed that by worshipping Goddess Lakshmi during sthir lagna, Goddess will always reside in your home. On Dhanteras, there is a Hindu tradition of lighting Yama Deepam. People offer diya to Yama, the Lord of Death, outside the house. It is believed that lighting this diya, removes all the evil forces and also prevent from untimely death in the family.
